My Tea Set

My Teapot

I used the wheel to make my teapot. I made two bowls and later put them together.  For the spout I rolled it on a large paint brush and put it on the teapot. I punched around five holes for the spout. Making the spout was a lot more easier to make then the handle. The handle is coiled, I put two coils together to make a stronger handle. For my teapot lid, I used the wheel to make it. I made a small bowl on the lid for a knob. In addition I made two cups and a small bowl. Both the bowl and teacups were thrown. The teacups have handles that were pulled. It took me several tries to make them cause they would always break while being pulled.

History of Japanese Teapots

The colors of a teapot depended on how red clay was baked. A Red teapot was usually Oxidized when baked. While a Black teapot had reduced baking.  Nowadays clay is made from artificially mixed clay. But Before it was made with natural clay. There isn't much of a difference between artificially mixed clay and natural. But artificially mixed clay is the most used.  Red Clay is used to make teapots by hand. While Yellow clay is used to make Teapots on a potter's wheel, since yellow clay is more elastic then red clay.
